NAME
cow-module-cmd - internal commands used by cow modules
DESCRIPTION
These commands form part of the interface between cow(1) and its modules. They are documented for module authors and debugging, but are not intended as general configuration commands.
COMMANDS
window-attach -t host [-s client] -n slot -x X -y Y -w width -h height [-v on|off] [-c on|off]
Attach a client to a named slot owned by a host window. Coordinates are relative to the host’s content origin and may be negative for an external panel. The width and height describe the client’s content area. CoW clips clients to their slots and suppresses their server-side decorations.
Omit -s to update an occupied slot. Visibility defaults to on; -v off hides the client without closing it. Clients follow their host’s position, desk, layer and iconified state. Repeating an unchanged request does not schedule another layout.
Before launching a client, -a app-id reserves the slot for the next new matching window instead of attaching -s client. An optional -T pattern also matches the window title. The reservation lasts ten seconds and is consumed before the client’s first display; ambiguous matches are not used. Repeat the request to update a pending slot. -X -n slot cancels it. Reservations are discarded when the host closes or -D is used.
window-attach -t host -D releases all attachments. Closing the host also releases its clients, except those attached with -c on, which receive a normal close request. The default is -c off. This policy survives CoW restart and applies even if the host process is killed. Explicit -D releases clients without closing them. Ordinary container editing commands do not modify module-owned layouts.
show diagnostics
Return read-only, process-lifetime diagnostic counters. The record contains CoW process CPU, uptime and peak RSS; pending and cumulative update counts; manage and render cycle counts; and last, average, and maximum callback and CoW/River hand-off timings. Timing values are in microseconds.
The request_wait measurement covers the first pending manage request to River’s manage_start event. after_manage covers CoW’s manage_finish request to River’s next render_start event. These are protocol-boundary timings, not compositor frame-rendering measurements.
The diagnostics have no config representation.
window-tile [-t target] [-e edges] [-u]
Set or clear the tiled-edge hint for a window. This is used by modules which place and size windows exactly, because some clients use the tiled state to ignore normal resize increments.
- -t target
-
Target window.
- -e edges
-
Set the tiled edges. edges may be all, none, or any combination of n, s, e, and w. The default is all.
- -u
-
Clear the tiled-edge hint.
